Last week Troy Davis was executed in Georgia. His execution has been very controversial, as his supporters were waiting for the Supreme Court to intervene up until the last moment. Many of Davis' supporters say that there was not enough evidence to link him to the murder of Mac Phail, a police officer. Several of the witnesses have also recanted their testimonies that link Davis to the crime. However, the courts declared that Davis had multiple opportunities to prove his innocence, but could not. Bullet shells found at the scene of the crime could also be linked to bullets used in a previous crime. Focus Question: which side are you on? Do you agree with the Death Penalty? Is it necessary? Does the possibility of wrongful execution flaw the entire system?
isaac b. period 8
ReplyDeletei think that troy davis is not guilty because after the witnessses found out that he was gonna be exacuted they changed their minds about what happend. i strongly disagree with the death penalty because no one deserves to be killed not even if they kill someone else. They have a family and friends who will miss them and be very depressed
Alex t. period 8
ReplyDeletei say its wrong that the suprem court didnt look over and hear what troy had to say and they shouldnt of killed him if they didnt have hard evidence and i bet his family is sad because he died for some reason he didnt do.
i think that they should not have done that they did not give him a good trail he only had links no hard evidence. he should not have died the supreme court should have given him a fair trail and obama should have done something about this.troy davis needed to be proven inocent or guilty. he was just killed because he had one too many trails. the death penalty does was not what he desrved 20 years in jail is more reasonable.
ReplyDeletei agree with dead penalty when they have enough prove that he/she was the murder of that person. i also agree with dead penalty because her/his family should suffer and feel when somebody close to you or even a family member is kill. For example i would 100% agree with dead penalty if he/she killed one of my family members,so the murder's family should feel how i feel.
ReplyDeleteI believe, in my opion that this was a unfair and unruly trial. Troy Davis could have been guilty, but he can also have not been guilty. I stand for my belief in that until they can find hard, real, and proving evidence that he, Troy Davis, does not deserve the "death" pennalty. I say to all of my peers, and anyone else in this mater, that if he is not guilty for the supposed murder of mac phail, the police officer found dead, than this would and/or can be a ridicule of all americans. They should have not given him a "death" penalty, but instead let him live in a custody arrangement until they solved this homicide case. it says in the constitution no man can be charged of anything, including murder whithout being proven guilty in the court of law, which they did, but without hard evidence. Killing an innocencent man wont catch the the killer, only let him know that he can do it again. President Barrack Obama did not step in because the next election is soon and does not want to get invovled incase the man was guilty he would have bad reputation then forth would not be reelcted. I would agree, but I would get involved and trie a save this man from the monstrosity of the "death" penalty. I my own belief is that to convict a person you would need hard evidence, not a witness. it is and/or has been proven that everybody has either a lier or has twisted the truth in sometime of their life. my thoughts are; "Ask youself, have you ever lied and/or twisted the truth in one way or another? Then why should you or others trust these peoples testimony than? I know I have lied and twisted the truth. Be honest would you trust these people?" They say it was him, then they say it wasn't him, if you ask me, myself, and I say this doesnt make any sence. you need hard evidence, it's neccesary. Mathmaticians don't go off saying "X" is equal to the number of "8", they show their work. like we need to do on this case. Ask youself would you covict thos man, giving him death will just make you as bad as him, if he did do the murder. In my conclusion to this is current event i think, in my opinion, that america deserves to be ridiculed of this, it is are punishiment.
ReplyDeleteWhat i think is that the death penalty is to be tolerated and there shouldn't be people dying that whey. For example people when they die they either die happy or Sad and other,But when people die in the "Chair" They die With Pain Anger and they probably think'ed what they could of done right. they would put their heads back. So they die with pain. Me my self and I would Love to Die Knowing i did Good before, and with love from those i love. Then what i think is just put them on House arrest for for a year and look upon people that love him/her. And do good.
ReplyDeleteDavid N. Period 8
ReplyDeleteI think it is wrong that the supreme court didn't even look over the case. If I were the family of Troy Davis, I would sue the supreme court. Is that even possible?
Luz M. Period 8
ReplyDeleteI think that Troy Davis hasn't proved if he is or isn't guilty and we will never know because know he's dead and I believe that execution should be illegal.
Cyril u. period 2
ReplyDeletei think that Troy Davis is not guilty because there was no real hard evidence to make him guilty so they should not have killed him
Veronica G. Period 5
ReplyDeleteTroy Davis isn't guilty. They really didn't know what happened that night. They're not sure if he was the one who shot him.
As far as the death penalty I really strictly believe in the 'eye for an eye' policy.I would say in this case though, Troy Davis had no evidence in killing this cop.But he was lucky enough to be able to plead guilty though he did not have enough evidence.I guess because the judge or the court had such a strong feeling in their gut they decided to give him the death penalty (even though he could have been guilty)
ReplyDeletep.s. kristopher branham wrote alot
Jose Bautista Period 5
ReplyDeleteI agree with dead penaltys because just being in jail its not going to bring the special person thats gone just because of a dumb person
I think that the death penalty should be illegal because if there is no hard evidence to say that the person being executed is guilty then why should he be held to the death penalty. In my opinion i have to say that they shouldnt have executed him stricly because he was never found guilty.
ReplyDeleteDanie C. 8th period
Sheldon Ross Period 5
ReplyDeleteI agree with Danie C because if someone get a death penalty with out hard evidence then he/she could be get the death penalty for nothing. So he died for nothing. That's my opinion.
Christopher P. Period 2
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that their is still death penalties but the thing is I think they should only give a death penalty to people that do something really serious and they need to have hard evidence also because many lives have been taken due to the fact that they just kill who ever is "guilty" and never really think about it. Many innocent people have been taken because they are mistaken and then they have nothing they can do because most don't have the right to speak in court about it. Death penaties are a good idea but they need to be really sure about it before they do it.
Eli N . period 8
ReplyDeletei think instead of killing him they should of put
him into jail inside for a while till they knew if he was guilty or not
because its not fair.
Terrell.B.period 8
ReplyDeleteI think it was wrong what they did to him executions are when you know it was him they did not know if it was him. i believe the death penalty is justice but wait until he has been found guilty.
Shantell Ruelas Period 8
ReplyDeleteI Strongly agree with Eli n from period 8
i think they should keep him in jail and not kill him because they still need to make more research on hi,. and for them to kill him and later on find out something was went wrong that will be mest up and that will not be fair. it happens all the time......
Hai Pham, period. 8
ReplyDeleteI think the supreme court should keep investigating more carefully. I am on Troy Davis side ; i say he's not guilty. Troy Davis is not able to prove that he's innocent because the citizens are making it hard for him and the court. This is because half of the citizen is saying that the court doesn't have enough evidence to link him to the murder. On the other hand several of other citizens is saying that troy is linked to the crime. Therefore, the court doesn't have enough evidence to put Troy on death penalty. If the court does the wrongful execution, it may flaw the system. It can also make America look bad.
Calvin S 8th Period
ReplyDeleteI agree with Hai, they should investigate more carefully and find some evidence. then if they find some evidence then they can proceed to the death penalty. There only evidence are some people that says Troy David kills the police. They might be lying or not. They should find evidence first. if they proceed to the death penalty without any evidence then the system will look bad because you cant put someone in death penalty without any evidence.
Tony B Period 2
ReplyDeleteI think that we do need the death penalty in our justice system because,if we didn't have It, people would just kill themselves instead of staying prison for the rest of there lives. I do believe that if there is wrongful execution that it could mess up our entire justice system.
Jennifer Period 5.
ReplyDeleteI think that they should've listened to Troy Davis case because i think it wasn't fair for him. I do not agree with the Death Penalty in this case because I think that he is not guilty. They shouldn't be misjudging without hard evidence. If there was any good evidence then i'd agree to what's being said
Alondra A. period 5
ReplyDeleteI also agree with eli because the still didn't know if he was guilty of not.
Courtney B. Period 2
ReplyDeleteI think that we shouldnt have the death penalty because no one deserves to die even is they killed someone else. I think that it was wrong to kill troy in the death penalty because they had no hard evidence that he killed the police officer. The courts didnt look into or get any evidence that Troy killed him. I believe that troy was innocent and the death penalty was wrong.
i agree with death penalty . if only the supreme court has a strong evidence to the accused..
ReplyDelete6th amendment- rights of the accused.
Jesse Rodriguez PD:8
ReplyDeleteI don't think that killing the man by the death penalty was correct. First because the other people didn't find actual evidence about the man killing the cop. Then secondly because the people who said they were witnesses recanted their testimonies. And third of all was that you can't blame someone unless they are proven guilty, and I think that is a law that they went against in this case.
I do not agree with the death penalty unless the person has does multiple crimes, and doesn't stop even after other puninshments. Also, you should have all the proof, more then what you would usually need to actually give someone the death penalty.
ReplyDeleteCiera R.

Im in the side of they shouldn't use death Penalty on Travis because there wasn't a lot of evidence of him shooting the cop, and also the people who accused of him now say they don't know if it was him it.It just doesn't make sense.
ReplyDeleteThey should of had more proof before killing him.
Yes i think executed without evidence is wrong because that person might be innocent and if there was proof they should of executed him

Troy Davis* not Travis Oops

Daniel M. Period 5
ReplyDeleteWell to begin, I think that it is hard to be on one specific side. But I choose to be on the side that does serve the justice. In this case before actually giving someone the death penalty i think that it is fair to give the defense party time to prove a case. The death penalty is something that should be used as a last resource and in this case i do not think that it was fair since the evidence that was provided was still not clear.
Under any condition i think that before giving anybody the death penalty they should have the correct evidence. To conclude the possibility of wrongful execution could in the long run hurt the court system of the United States.
Gloria A.Period 2
ReplyDeleteI agree with the death penalty because, we all know what's right and whats wrong. Also there will be an outcome with bad decisions we make.
Cendy Cortes
ReplyDeletePeriod 2
I agree with the death penalty. I agree with it because i think sometimes it's necessary because people do a lot of bad things and they get away with it and that's not fair. People other people's lifes away and i think they deserve to get the death penalty not just years in jail.
J.p period 2.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the death penalty. It is necessary because lets say. I person killed someone. Since they killed someone they have to die them self. Its either suicide or the death penalty.
Isaiah Angeles period 2
ReplyDeleteI agree with the death penalty, because i think sometimes it's necessary because people do a lot of terrible things and they get away with it and do it all over again, other people's lives get lost and they get away with it and i think they deserve to get the death penalty not just years in jail.
Lucci Z Period 8
ReplyDeleteI would be biased if someone asked me if Troy Davis deserved the death penalty, because I am against it. They teach you in kindergarten that two wrongs do not make a right, and I think that should be remembered now. Killing people who kill people is an immoral contradiction. Just because a professional person is the executioner, not a freak with a gun, does not make it okay.
Syed A
ReplyDeleteperiod 8
i dont agree with it because you do not know if he actually killed that person. he can be incocent
Jair vivar period 5
ReplyDeleteI think that Troy davis was innocent because there was simply not enough evidence proving it was him who did it. The death penalty is not necessary because an innocent person could be killed.
I don't agree with death penalty, because I think they should find enough evidence before. But if they do have enough evidence, or can prove with any kind of reasons, then it will be fine. But no one really deserves to be punished if they didn't do anything. -NI Period 5
ReplyDeleteNinawa N. Period 2.
ReplyDeleteI do not agree with the death penalty.I think that since there was no actual evidence so it doesn't make Troy Davis guilty. So I don't think that they should have executed him.
Carlos S. Period:5
ReplyDeleteWell I disagree with the death penalty because you may kill an innocent man rather then the real convicted person. And I am On Troy Davis side because the police didn't have real hard evidence so they couldn't accuse Troy Davis of the murder.
Sorry for the delay
i believe it wasn't the right thing to do to him bcz of wat he did in the past and stuff

ReplyDeleteI think that Troy Davis should not have been killed because no one has proof that he killed the off duty police officer. If he was guilty and they had proof that he killed the officer then I would have said he deserved to be killed, but they did not have evidence so there for he should not have been killed.
Lesley A. period 5
ReplyDeleteI think that for somebody to get the death penalty there has to be hard edvidence that the pserson is guilty or not. and a person can always be proven guilty even thought their innocent so its hard to tell if their guilty or not.
Enrique Sanchez prd.8
ReplyDeleteI believe the death of Troy Davis was wrong. It was false completely. There was not enough eveidence to blame him guilty. It was even more wrong that they executed him. The court room should have gotton more evidence and researched the scene more.
Christopher L. period 8
ReplyDeleteI strongly beleive troy davis wasnt guilty because they didnt have strong evidence enough to say he was entirely guilty. they only suspected what they found might have a link to him. thats all they suspected. thats not enough, his exicution was not needed at all. he was innocent.
I dont think the death of Troy Davis was right they didnt have full proof of him doing it. I think they should of had more proof and not just jump to conclusions and kill him i think they should of had more poof.
